5 Annoying Things People In Relationships Are Sick Of Hearing

boyfriend

Being single sucks when you’re at a party or at the bar and you see a cute ass couple having the time of their lives in their own world. Being single sucks even more when you’re scrolling through Insta and you see anniversary posts. But you know what sucks too? Being in a relationship. I mean, don’t get me wrong — I love having my “best friend” and boyfriend be one person. I love having someone to spend time with who enjoys almost everything I do. The list can go on and on because ultimately, you are dating someone you love and have things in common with. Being in a relationship has A LOT of pros, but it does have its cons. The cons consist of friends who make you feel bad for not being single. Sure, I don’t have a place to complain but that hasn’t stopped me yet. And the things your friends say? Yeah, they fucking suck.

1. “You aren’t fun anymore.”

Just because I’m dating someone doesn’t mean I don’t want to have fun. Just because I’m dating someone doesn’t mean I can’t have fun. Yes, I have a boyfriend, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get trashed and have a girls’ night. I’m pretty sure having a boyfriend changes my relationship status, not my personality.

2. “We didn’t ask you to come with us because we thought you were with _______.”

So what if I was with my boyfriend? That doesn’t mean I can’t leave him to hang? It’s called a “hey, I’m going to hang out with my friends, see ya later.” So it’s annoying when your friends don’t even bother asking you just because they assume you don’t want to come. How about you ask me before just deciding for me because yes, I did want to come.

3. “You don’t go out and hang out with us anymore.”

This relates to the previous reason. Hey, maybe I’d come out and hang with you… IF YOU ASKED. If that’s not the case and you asked, but I turned you down — please don’t blame me being in a relationship. But the truth is, yeah. Being in a relationship means I have less of a reason to go to bars and flirt with boys. That’s just the truth. I’d still like to hang out, but body shots every day of the week? I’ll pass.

4. “You don’t get it, you’re in a relationship.”

You do know that I had to be single to be in a relationship, right? I once did everything you are saying and I’ve been there and done that, so go ahead with your story because I can guarantee you I can relate and maybe even give you advice.

5. “You guys are always together.”

Just because you saw us together at 1 p.m. doesn’t mean we’re still hanging out at 4 p.m. And we’re not actually surgically attached at the hip. Or genitals. People like to have their alone time, even in relationships. And hell, even if we are together, what’s it to you? Why does what I’m doing on my free time bothering you? If you want to hang out, just ask and I will say yes (personal answer) because yes, I am in a relationship, but I still want to hang out with my friends.

At the end of it all, however, you have to remember — if your friend is dating someone, she’s probably somewhat serious about him. Most of us want to find that person we spend *forever* with. And unless we dedicate a lot of time to them, we’ll never find out if they’re the ones for us. So cut your friends some slack, and understand that as time goes on, people drift apart a little. Be supportive, understand that serious relationships require a lot of attention, and always ask if he has brothers. Who knows? Maybe you too can become an annoying relationship person and live happily ever after too.
