A UCLA Pi Beta Phi Member Was Found Dead After A Fire This Morning

Pi Phi

It is believed that an unnamed member of UCLA’s Pi Beta Phi chapter passed away early this morning.

While many details are not available, UCLA’s “The Daily Bruin” is reporting that police were called to an apartment that, “belonged to several members of the Pi Beta Phi sorority” where the woman, presumed to be a member of the chapter, was found deceased. It was earlier stated that “her boyfriend is now a person of interest in a Los Angeles Police Department homicide investigation.”

According to a more recent report by Daily News, however, he is no longer a person of interest.

It is unclear how the fire, which took firefighters about 15 minutes to put out, started. It is also unclear if the woman was a victim of the fire or she had been injured previous to the fire’s outbreak.

The Daily Bruin is not reporting the woman’s name, but states that she was entering her senior year at UCLA and studying psychology and Spanish. Her name is being withheld until members of her family are notified. They also report that, “Pi Beta Phi sorority members were called in for an emergency meeting after the death was announced this morning. A member of the sorority said they were asked not to comment on the incident.”

One of the woman’s neighbors commented that, “She was a very outgoing and fun person.”

Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and her Pi Beta Phi sisters.
