Adele’s New Album Is Here, But You Won’t Be Able To Stream It Anywhere

Adele

The day we’ve all been waiting for is finally here. We’ve stocked up on Blue Bell, boxed wine, and tissues, ready to cry our hearts out over our tales of relationships past with the drop of Adele’s new album, ’25.’ But now there’s just one problem. According to the New York Times, you won’t be able to stream it.

Today you won’t be able to access ’25’ on Spotify, Apple Music, or iHeartRadio. While I’m seriously bummed that Adele just pulled a Taylor Swift, her reasoning is spot-on. After the single ‘Hello’ broke records all over the place, selling 1.1 MILLON downloads in its first week, ’25’ is now slated to sell 2.5 million copies in its first week, which would make it the highest-selling album of all time. Just for reference, the last time an album even came close to touching those numbers was *NSYNC’s “No Strings Attached,” which sold 2.4 million copies in 2000 (which, incidentally, also settles the great *NSYNC v. Backstreet Boys debate once and for all).

Obviously if Adele’s album were to be available for free or in full on a paid streaming service, these numbers would go down quite a bit. She’s made a bold career move here, but I can’t say I hate it. Do yourselves, and Adele, a favor and break out the credit card for the $10.99 purchase from iTunes to help her dethrone Taylor Swift once and for all. Just make sure you’re already prepared with your sweatpants and chocolate, because something tells me you’re not getting out of bed for the next 24 hours. Cry your heart out, ladies.
