21-year-old University of Miami junior Adam C. Levine (“like Maroon 5 — only better” as his friends like to say) will not be returning to school after spring break. He tragically passed away at Jackson Memorial Hospital after attending Ultra music festival this weekend. An official cause of death hasn’t been released by the Miami-Dade County medical examiner, but according to an obituary posted by his family on Restonnow.com, Adam died from complications of a seizure.

Ray Martinez, chief of security at Ultra confirmed that Adam was at the music festival on Friday.

“We don’t have many details, but we can tell you that our security personnel noticed he was having difficulties and immediately called Miami Fire Rescue to get him medical attention. From what we have been told, paramedics initiated medical treatment and transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital.”

Adam was an active member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, as well as heavily involved in student government at the University of Miami. They posted this message on their Facebook page on March 19.

Here are a few of the kind words they had to say about Adam.

Adam was a hardworking, passionate leader who always dedicated himself completely to every project he was involved with. In addition to his leadership, we will always remember his warm, outgoing personality and his incredible ability to brighten anyone’s day. Adam made everyone in SG feel like they were part of a big, loving family. He always gave everyone he met a big hug or a smile, and he made everyone feel special whether it’s by telling a funny joke or asking about their day. Even if you just met him, Adam would always greet you in the most enthusiastic way. He was a genuinely kind, outgoing person with an incredible sense of humor who always knew how to make people feel welcomed and loved.

Adam Levine — like in Maroon 5, only better — was an incredible friend to all and he will always stay in our hearts. Don’t worry, Adam, we will always remember that you *ARE* PR, and we will make sure that your legacy of funny meeting reminder emails and jokes at Senate and other meetings to keep the mood light and joyful will continue forever

According to his obituary, Adam’s “larger-than-life personality and witty sense of humor made him the life of the party, whether it was a gathering of two or a stadium full of fellow students.” He studied abroad in Australia last year and had plans to enroll in dental school after graduation. Robert Nosanchuk, a family friend and the former rabbi said Adam was “the kind of kid people gravitated toward.”

The Greek community at the University of Miami is mourning the loss of Adam, too. Delta Phi Epsilon posted this sweet message to their Facebook page in memory of Adam.

Chi Omega also offered their condolences.
