AOII At Wright State Welcomes New Member With Cerebral Palsy

A few weeks ago, the story of Alexis Cain, a student with down syndrome who joined Alpha Sigma Alpha at Murray State University, brought us all to tears. Alexis’ story was not only inspirational, it also defied the stereotype that sororities are not accepting of anyone who is not the “typical” sorority girl.

But haters could have argued that this was a one-off, that it doesn’t happen everywhere. But it just happened again at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

On Sunday night, Lauren Reder, an incoming freshman with cerebral palsy, was welcomed into the sisterhood of Alpha Omicron Pi, and it (of course) was captured on video.

AOII Chapter President Alex Hamilton told ABC22, “We knew that she was just a beautiful soul, she had so much love for life. Yes, she may have challenges but that doesn’t define her, that shouldn’t define anyone.”

Lauren, who plans to major in Latin, is excited to be a part of her sisterhood. “They like me for who I really am,” Reder said. “I felt very welcome.”
