Caitlyn Jenner Responds To The “Offensive” Halloween Costume That Upset The Entire Internet

Caitlyn Jenner

It’s happening. The air is getting just a bit cooler (or is that my imagination). The sleeves are getting longer and we’re all suddenly okay with getting a little fatter. Summer drinks are out and PSLs are in, which means one thing and one thing only.

Halloween is upon us.

And if you haven’t already started planning, crafting, and plotting your costume, then you’re behind. You can’t fall for one of the cliché costumes. You know. Sexy cat. Sexy Elsa. Sexy Caitlyn Jenner.

That’s right. In case you’ve somehow managed to avoid the internet, Pinterest, and offended people, the hottest costume this Halloween is none other than Cait from the cover of “Vanity Fair.”

This costume, actually.

And as you can imagine, a whole bunch of people had a whole bunch of stuff to say about it. “It’s offensive!” “It’s transphobic!” “It’s a disgrace.” More than 16,000 people got so upset, in fact, that they started a petition on Change.org to try to get companies to stop selling the costume. Then, after declaring that this overpriced, shitty costume was “exploiting” Caitlyn, it finally occurred to someone to, you know, ask her.

In the first section of an interview with The Today Show, Caitlyn discussed the costume with Matt Lauer.

From The Today Show:

I’m in on the joke… I don’t think it’s offensive at all. I know the community does, and the companies that sell them have gotten a lot of criticism for doing it. I think it’s great, to be honest with you; I think it’s great. But they could have came up with a better outfit for it!”

I could have done my own costume! I mean, that was a serious bustier on the cover of “Vanity Fair.” I mean, at least get some good clothes.

I’m sorry. Is that a Kardashian/Jenner having an awesome sense of humor? I’ve always respected Caitlyn, but now I like her. In the interview she went on to say that life’s too short not to enjoy it, and she she can’t “get too upset about that type of stuff. There’s nothing better in life than to wake up in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror, and feel comfortable with yourself and who you are.”

So if you’re looking for a cliché, pop culture costume, it’s officially fine by the PC police to dress up like Caitlyn Jenner. My advice? Make your own instead of buying the tacky one at the store. I’m thinking sexy corset, luscious extensions, and the ability to laugh at yourself. It’s what Cait would want.
