Brace Yourselves, Coffee Might Be Going Extinct

Imagine a world without Dunkin’ Donuts happy hour or Starbucks Gold card rewards? Is that the world you want to live in?

Yeah, that’s a hard “no” from me.

The Climate Institute of America found that by 2080 coffee will go extinct if current global warming trends continue. My future 83-year-old self is already crying at the thought of a fall without a PSL.

Due to droughts, floods, and heightening temperatures, the heavenly countries in Central and South America that produce our favorite (morning) drug of choice are having an increasingly hard time growing coffee due to fungal infections and leaf rust. I don’t know what that is, but ew.

Deny global warming all you want, but when they attack something so precious to all of us, I think it’s time we act. Researchers found we need to limit our global warming caused heat by 1.5 degrees. We need to do it because who knows what’s next. Diet coke? Vodka Water Limes? The casualties will only continue to grow.
