Coffee In A Cone Is The New Food Trend You’ll Be Obsessing Over

coffee in a cone

Instagram is the place where most trends start. There are tons of beauty trends, hair trends, and food trends that all got their start on the ‘gram, but they all pale in comparison to this trend. It’s called #coffeeinacone, and that hashtag has been used more than 1,500 times in just the past six weeks thanks to the rise of this new twist on coffee.

Is your mouth watering yet? Mine too. It perfectly marries two of your favorite things: coffee and ice cream cones. We all have a man named Dayne Levinrad to thank for this tasty combination. He’s a marketing exec and barista at The Grind Company in Johannesburg, South Africa and #coffeeinacone is his brainchild. Someone get this man a raise.

The coffee-lined cones are filled to the brim with a shot of espresso, and topped with a cutesy little design. (Okay, so it’s technically espresso, not coffee, but #espressoinacup isn’t as catchy.)

“We used the cone as a way to become an Instagrammable product,” Levinrad told CNN. “When people come in, they take a selfie and tag #coffeeinacone.”

These people totally get me. #coffeeinacone ☕️🍦👊🏼 #meetthefarbers

This new take on espresso wasn’t born overnight. Levinrad had trouble coming up with the perfect cone design that held the espresso in without leaking. “We bought our own machine and started rolling our own wafer cones, using different flours, but the chocolate still melted. We couldn’t have any leakage.”

Levinrad’s final product involves four different compounds of chocolate and gives you about ten minutes to snap a pic and post to the ‘gram (pro tip: think of the caption beforehand) before the entire thing melts into your hand/lap.

Levinrad is working on a patent for his ingenious product, but copycats are already popping up all over the world. You can now find #coffeeinacone in New Zealand, Los Angeles, and Berlin, and I’m sure many more coffee shops will follow suit.

Having fun with #coffeeinacone #hotchocinacone 😜🙋☕🍫 @thegrindza

I’m gonna need one to open up right next to my house, as I plan to replace my morning coffee with this delcious treat.
