Everyone Hates Target Now Because Of Their (Cute) Shirts

Target

Well, it happened. The world as we knew it might be ending. I’m not sure where, exactly, this apocalypse originated, but the evidence is here. The shift has taken place. The minds have been changed. The girls have gone wild. Women from around the nation are officially mad at Target.

You know, Target? The place we flock after a bad day at work, good day at the gym, or when we really need some cleaning supplies and statement necklaces? It was there for us when we said we needed crackers but ended up buying a new kitchen mat, stemless wine glasses, a swimsuit, wedges, and a bag of Hershey’s Miniatures.

But now? Now women everywhere are turning their backs on our safe place. Our haven. Our home-away-from-home. Thanks to some (adorable) t-shirts, people are PTFO at Walmart’s much hotter sister. So what’s the big deal? What was so bad that people are hating on our favorite store? Target’s line of “Wedding and Engagement” apparel are to blame, and they’re making women everywhere feel degraded. Cue: eye roll.

How dare Target release a line of shirts targeted (LOL) towards one of the biggest events happening in their key demographic customer’s lives? Women, being excited about flaunting their marital status? Women feeling so good about themselves that they consider their husband lucky to be with them? Women who can’t wait to become a “Mrs. Whoever” because they picked the perfect guy? HOW. DARE. THEY? It’s gross and disgusting, and a detriment to society. That is, of course, until the second I get a rock on my finger and I throw every single one of these in my cart.

Maybe I’ll even do it before, just to get things moving.

In an article by Fox, a Target representative was quoted:

It is never our intention to offend anyone and we always appreciate receiving feedback form our guests. The shirt you’re describing is part of a collection of engagement and wedding shirts that are available in our women’s and plus size departments. The collection also included shirts that say ‘Team Bride,’ ‘Mrs.’ and ‘Bride.’ These shirts are intended as a fun wink and we have received an overwhelmingly positive response from our guests.

Because seriously guys, we have better things to get offended about. Personally I (and tons of other women my age) think these shirts are great. Not only because we’re dying to post ourselves wearing one on Instagram with the caption: “He asked, I said yes” but because it’s sassy. And guess what? Women are allowed to be sassy now! It’s this new hip thing where we aren’t censored and pushed into the kitchen to make sandwiches and be seen but not heard.

So whether you actually want to be a trophy wife or not you can appreciate the fact that Target probably knows what it’s doing. And hey, if you don’t like them, just don’t wear them. That just means more shirts and better sizes for the rest of us.
