Facebook Is Making Breaking Up A Whole Lot Easier

Breakup

There are a few really shitty things about breaking up. The fact that all of your hopes and dreams are shattered, is, of course, annoying. And having to find something/someone else to fill your time and do things with is tedious. But one of the absolute worst things about ending a relationship is social media.

For most of us, being in a relationship means having a someone to always post pictures of, send links to, and tag in everything. So when we change our statuses from “in a relationship” to “single,” we have a whole lot of shit from our past just waiting to come up in a time hop and make us feeling single AF.

As of yesterday, Facebook has decided to do something about that. They understand that sometimes the breakup isn’t so cut and dry. Sure, you ended things but you don’t want to look like a total dick and delete/block the person. Maybe you still want to be able to stalk him, and know that unfriending him will cause more hard than good. Maybe you sort of kind of hope you’ll get back together and don’t want to ruin your chances. Still, having their pictures, updates, and old tagged pictures pop up to remind you of the life you once had is really painful. So, finally, that’s all over.

Facebook announced that they’re testing out some new tools to make to breaking a whole lot easier.

Basically, when you break up, you have a whole lot of new options. As soon as you switch your status over, you’ll be given some choices.

You can choose to hide his posts and avoid the heartbreaking prompts of “send this person a message” that Facebook loves to throw our way.

You’ll be able to limit what your ex sees that you post. So you can still upload pictures with new guys without feeling petty.

You’ll be able to limit what past things he can see, and untag old photos so you don’t stumble upon something painful when you’re happily stalking yourself.

Finally Facebook gives us the virtual option of throwing all of our memories into a fire because NO ONE breaks our hearts. And if unfollowing him isn’t the final “fuck you,” not letting him to see what, or who, you’re doing to should do the trick. Ugh Facebook. You still get us.
