Foam Finger Creator Appalled By Cyrus’s Degradation Of An “Honorable Icon”

As Chelsea Handler pointed out on her show this week, everyone’s talking about Miley Cyrus’s performance, but no one’s talking about the poor foam finger, which is probably crying in a corner somewhere right now. The finger’s “father” could not agree more after watching the televised molestation of his “baby.”

Inventor of the foam finger Steve Chmelar had a strong opinion of Miley’s victimization of his product, the prototype of which was invented in 1971.

“She took an honorable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it. Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident.”

Thank heavens the foam finger has had so many years to build up its reputation to “survive this incident,” you guys. Fingy is going to make it. She’s seen a counselor to discuss her sexual assault, and the prognosis looks good. Friends and family have been supporting her in her time of need.

Foam Finger

Not all foam finger creators are upset by the display, though. The designer of this particular manicured foam finger could not be more delighted. It was made for an editorial shoot last year, and eventually made a brief appearance in Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” music video. The finger’s VMA performance, though, was surely its breakthrough role.

Katnic even bragged that “Cyrus was such a fan of the finger that she took it home with her.” I’ll bet she did.
