KKΓ House At Arkansas Finishing Up $7 Million Expansion, Now 41,000 Square Feet

The chapter house arms race is interesting to follow. These things just keep getting bigger and better.

The newest edition of the Kappa Kappa Gamma house at the University of Arkansas is set to officially open this fall — Dedication Day is scheduled for October 26, and hopefully they do the ribbon cutting ceremony with some of those huge scissors that everybody likes — and will accomodate a 300 member chapter. The house will sleep 92 girls. That’s 92 sorority girls living under one roof. I can’t decide if that sounds like the greatest situation ever or the most terrifying place on earth. Can you imagine if all of their menstrual cycles synced up? Good lawd.

The house has previously undergone expansions and renovations, with the last one occurring in 1965 when it was enlarged to 31,000 square feet. It slept 75 until its most recent expansion. Now, at 41,000 square feet, it’s got to be among the largest in the country, if not the largest. One would have to assume the 41,000 figure is an arbitrary one, but it’s also pretty interesting that only one week ago we covered the new construction of the Gamma Phi Beta house at the University of Alabama, a house that will be 40,000 square feet upon completion. That’s called one-upping a bitch.

Recruiting new members is a year-round, cutthroat business. If you’re able to claim the biggest and the best house in the country, that’s a sales pitch that’s hard to turn down.
