Lilly Pulitzer Is Suing Old Navy For Completely Ripping Off Its Patterns

If you thought that people lost their shit over Lilly for Target, wait until you hear this: good old Lilly is suing Old Navy for ripping off some of their patterns. Sugartown Worldwide, the owner of the Lilly Pulitzer brand, says that Old Navy has caused “irreparable damage” to the brand by ripping off the “High Tide Toile” and “Sparks Fly Design” patterns that the company owns the rights to.

If you look at the patterns side by side, you can barely tell the difference. Listen closely and you can hear everyone who’s ever spent eighty dollars for Lilly shorts clutching their pearls in horror, especially when it turns out that the Lilly knockoff shorts at Old Navy are literally a tenth of the price.

Sugartown is asking that Old Navy stop selling the patterned clothes, in addition to the lawsuit for damages caused by the infringement. Not surprisingly, since Old Navy hasn’t actually been relevant since like 2007 and is probably getting pretty desperate, this isn’t the first time they’ve been sued over copyright infringement. Imitation is the best form of flattery, I suppose.
