Real Life “The Notebook” Couple Dies Within Three Hours Of Each Other While Holding Hands

The notebook

Sometimes you just need a good, long, sob-inducing cry, and when you do, you watch The Notebook. At least, that’s what I do. It’s a classic love story that follows the life (and death) of Noah and Allie and it. is. gut-wrenching. I compared every romantic encounter I had after I watched this movie to the love between Noah and Allie, which as it turns out is impossible to measure up to because Noah was fucking perfect. The letters. The house. The love story he wrote and read to her. After a few boyfriends and a few drunk texts saying “IF YOU REALLY LOVED ME YOU WOULD BUILD ME A WHITE HOUSE WITH BLUE SHUTTERS,” I finally realized that that kind of love isn’t real — it’s just something that happens in movies.

Or so I thought.

George and Ora Lee Rodriguez met when they were just a couple of kids. He was a butcher and she was just a girl looking for a nice piece of meat (same, girl) and they fell in love. The duo got married after George came back from serving in the Marines and were together for over 58 years. They bought a house in San Antonio, Texas and raised a family. They had children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all-in-all lived the kind of life I think we all want to live.

A week after their 58th anniversary, the couple peacefully passed away in their home, surrounded by their entire family. George went first, passing away in his sleep while holding onto his wife’s hand. Ora Lee followed him into the next life a short three hours later, still holding on.

“They were both here, we had them here at the house, in their hospital beds, right beside each other, they were holding hands,” said their daughter, Corina Martinez. “My mother would always say that she was going to take my father or vice versa, and it did happen, we didn’t think it would, but it did.”

That right there is true love.
