Does your period ruin your life? Do you have nightmares about accidentally turning your bathroom into a scene akin to Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Does your Google history include “how much blood loss before transfusion”? Have you been forced to develop blood removing skills that would make Dexter look like a fool? Do you have a harrowing aversion to white pants? Well science has some good news for you.
The MRC Centre for Reproductive Health at the University of Edinburgh in the UK found a protein called HIF1 that could be responsible for your monthly 3 boxes of super tampons. In a small study of 8 women, they found that those whose periods were heavier had lower levels of HIF1, which triggers genes to help repair the guy when oxygen levels drop.
What does this mean for us? If this ends up being a correct correlation, pharmaceutical companies will be able to market a pill of some sorts that contains HIF1 which would stop heavy bleeding. It could replace hormonal birth control as means of controlling the flow of periods, which is great news, especially for people who don’t want to or can’t go on birth control.
Hopefully soon, if you have a heavy flow and a wide-set vagina, you won’t have to walk around in a mini diaper paired with a wad of cotton jammed in your lady bin. The future of feeble flows is now..
