Sig Ep And KKG At UNL Are Hazing Seniors

Kappa House

Social media will be the death of society, or at the very least, fraternities. You aren’t as wild as you think you are. Your parents were doing the same exact things you are doing, they just weren’t stupid enough to broadcast it, nor did they have the means (or the sensitive society) to do so.

UNL Sigma Phi Epsilon and Kappa Kappa Gamma are currently being investigated for hazing after a video leaked of a boy wearing just underwear, duct taped to a bench in front of the Kappa house. As he sat there, bound, members of both organizations squirted ketchup and mustard at him. Brutal.

The fraternity assured that this is part of a tradition during which the freshmen choose a senior to “repay the seniors for what they do to the freshmen.” So, no, this isn’t hazing. This is just the payback for hazing — err — for giving them a hard time, as seniors are wont to do.

Under Nebraska law, hazing is defined as any activity in which a person “intentionally or recklessly endangers the physical or mental health or safety of an individual” for purposes of initiation, admission or affiliation with any organization.

Still, the university is investigating the situation. KKG refused to hand over surveillance video that
pointed toward the bench until a warrant was issued, which is weird, because the university already had video footage from that night, but I suppose people will do anything to save face.
