Sorority Women Aim To Combat Stereotypes With Moving Hashtag

Sorority Women Aim To Combat Stereotypes With Moving Hashtag

As I sit in front of my monogrammed laptop drinking sweet tea from my tumbler wearing my oversized t-shirt from a long-ago philanthropy, it’s not lost on me that no one would be surprised when I told them I was a sorority girl. After all, I am the stereotype.

But I’m also so much more – we all are. And it’s time we let the world know it. So the question is, how? Well, we can start by participating in the third annual “I Am A Sorority Woman” campaign from Delta Gamma, which encourages sisters from every sorority to take the month of August to tell the world what being a sorority woman really means, using the hashtag #IamASororityWoman.

Women, Panhellenics, and organizations everywhere are joining in:

In a statement from Delta Gamma and the campaign’s founder, Tallia Deljou:

“I founded the ‘I Am A Sorority Woman’ campaign as an effort to shed light on what we do, what we stand for, and most importantly, who we are as sorority women. My hope is for this to inspire us to continue to “Do Good” in all the ways we can, to all the people we can, in every place we can. I am a sorority woman because I stand by women like you who dare to make a difference, not tomorrow, but today. Thank you for standing with me.”

So start tweeting, ladies. It’s time to show people what we’re really about.
