The Lilly For Target Recap You’ve All Been Waiting For

Lilly

You’ve read the articles. You’ve stalked the lookbook. You set an early morning alarm. Yesterday was the day you’ve been waiting for all your life – the Lilly for Target launch. For some, this was the best day ever. For most, it was a heartbreak and a disaster. Let’s dig into the worst, most disappointing, and most heart-wrenching aspects about the Lilly for Target launch.

Not All Sizes Were Offered
The Lilly for Target line made a huge deal about offering plus sized items, which was awesome. But for some Lilly aficionados that are used to Pulitzer’s sizing, many looking for sizes 00, 0, and XXS were left disappointed when Target’s line only went down to an XS and a 2. I’m not going to lie – I’d had my heart set on one particular shift dress for over a month, and my heart broke when it wasn’t offered in my size. If that were the only problem, the launch still would have still been a huge success. But….

Stores And Online Sold Out Within Minutes
Lines were wrapped around the building for the event, but what shocked all of us was that there were only two small racks of clothing offered. Not surprisingly, these flew off the shelves in a matter of minutes.

And They’re Not Making Any More
All of this would have been okay if we would have gotten a second chance with new shipments or new availability online, but unfortunately, that isn’t the case. We all knew this was a limited edition line, but we didn’t know just how limited it would be until Target’s CEO tweeted that they wouldn’t be restocking. Although I guess if you do NEED something from the line….

You Can Still Buy Lilly For Target….At A 500% Markup
Almost as soon as the sale began, the resale started. Electronic resale sites such as eBay are now flooded with Lilly for Target purchased purely for the resale value. If you’re dying for one of the products, don’t worry, you can definitely still buy it, but it’ll cost you about triple what you would pay in Lilly’s brand store.

Essentially, what this boils down to is that so many people were so excited about this line because it made Lilly available to the people who couldn’t necessarily afford to load up in her retail stores. Girls all over the nation got excited, saved pictures of their favorite dresses, and were then heartbroken when the first three people in line took everything. From a marketing perspective, it was a huge success, but Lilly for Target was never supposed to be about money. Like all young heartbreaks, we’ll get over it, but that doesn’t mean it won’t sting when we look back on it. Lilly for Target may have broken my heart, but there’s always the retail store. Don’t waste your money on the eBay scams, ladies – save your pennies and buy Lilly Pulitzer brand – everyone stuck with their Target brand shift dresses will envy you instead, trust me.
