The Urban Decay Naked palettes are considered holy grail products by makeup lovers for a good reason. The palettes contain a mix of shimmer and matte neutral shades, which make them easy and approachable for even a makeup beginner to wear. There were three original Naked palettes, and while they were all unique and wonderful in their own ways, the fans wanted something different. They wanted an all matte palette. Urban Decay listened and today they launched the newest member of the Naked family: the Naked Ultimate Basics palette.
As someone with slightly hooded eyes, shimmers are the devil (unless they’re on the inner corner) and mattes are my jam, which basically makes this palette the answer to my makeup prayers. There are absolutely no shimmers in this palette — just smooth, pigmented matte shades that blend like a dream. The packaging is different than the previous twelve pan Naked palettes. It’s square instead of rectangle, which I love because the rectangle palettes are kind of bulky and hard to fit in makeup bags.
Urban Decay has come out with all matte palettes before (the Naked Basics and the Naked2 Basics) but they were both kind of, well, basic, for lack of a better word. They had six shades instead of twelve and the colors were pretty boring. That’s not the case for this newest palette.
The Naked Ultimate Basics is comprised of twelve never-before-seen shades, featuring eleven mattes and one demi-matte, which would be used for highlighting. They’re a mix of cool and warm tones, but they’re all neutral. These brand new shades are anything but boring. That burnt orange Extra Bitter shade is speaking to my soul, and don’t even get me started on Lethal. The reddish brown hue just screams fall to me.
In case you needed another reason to justify this purchase, the palette also comes with a double-ended brush: one for blending and one for packing color on and smudging. Twelve shades and two brushes makes it worth it, right? That’s what I’m telling myself.
The Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette will be available at Sephora, Ulta, and Urban Decay’s website for $55 on September 18, which gives you plenty of time to save your pennies (like, a lot of pennies because that shit is expensive) and call this beautiful palette yours. .
