These FIJIs Were Arrested Because They Don't Know Science

While we almost never hear about sorority hazing scandals, because sororities rarely haze, fraternity hazing scandals — and the resulting suspensions or probations — are almost routine at this point. Like this FIJI hazing scandal coming out of Alabama.

From NBC News:

Five University of Alabama fraternity members were arrested on charges of hazing other students, officials said Wednesday — the latest in a string of campus scandals.

They were being held pending $1,000 bond at the Tuscaloosa County Jail, the university said in a statement.

Their arrest follows an investigation by the university into allegations involving the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Phi Gamma Delta has been placed under “interim sanctions,” the university said, including “no social events and no new member activities.”

And of what, pray tell, are the boys allegedly guilty? Making their pledges stand in ice buckets (seems normal?)…and salt, which is known to cause burns to the skin.

I honestly think this may very well be a case of pure stupidity. I don’t have a problem with a little bit of hazing. The ice on its own? Go for it. It’s almost cliché at this point. Mixing with a substance that causes a chemical reaction resulting in burns? Pure stupidity. I can’t even feel bad for you.
