This College Thinks An American Themed Party Is Offensive

college thinks america is offensive

I’ve seen a lot of dumb examples of PC culture going too far, but this is by far the dumbest.

Republicans and Democrat students of Ramapo College in Mahwah, New Jersey had planned to co-sponsor an event with an “American BBQ” theme. Two groups of people with vastly different viewpoints coming together in the name of America and smoked meats? Well, that’s about as American as it gets if you ask me.

Ariana Rivera, the assistant residence director of Bischoff Hall, emailed students about the little get together on August 17th, but two days before the event was scheduled to go on, she sent another email saying the event had to drop the “America” part of the theme and just make it a BBQ because the administration deemed it offensive. I think George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and the rest of the original patriots who fought long and hard for there to even be an America would beg to differ. When asked why the hell an American theme would be considered offensive, this was Rivera’s explanation.

“To be honest, I’m not sure. I think it was administrative,” Rivera replied. “I was told that our advertising was too ‘military and recruitment-oriented,’ because we had the Uncle Sam saying ‘I want you…’ I think? However, we saw other posters with that same idea, so I really don’t know.”

If you think Uncle Sam is offensive, I would like to kindly ask you to get the fuck out of this country. What’s even weirder about this whole thing is that usually college events like this are canceled because of a group appropriating a certain culture and thereby offending people of that culture, but how is enjoying some brisket and coleslaw appropriating America’s culture? Sounds like a damn good time to me.

So let me get this straight: we’re going to ignore and ban anything having to do with a culture instead of celebrating it? As Americans, we love our military and we love our BBQ, and I don’t think we should silence or stifle that just to make a few wet blankets more “comfortable.” If anything about America is offensive, it’s our patriotism — and we like it that way.

America. Fuck yeah.
