University Of Chicago To Freshmen: Eff Your Safe Spaces And Trigger Warnings

UniversityChicagoDoesntBelieveInSafeSpaces

I don’t believe in the idea of a safe space. The only safe space I ever officially acknowledged was my mother’s womb, until I entered the real world where freedom of speech and controversial ideas exist. At first, I was scared, but then I turned five and realized that A) not everyone shares my opinions, and B) I’m just going to need to get the fuck over it.

But not everyone agrees with me, probably because we live in a country where everyone can think whatever they want to think. Which is totally okay, until thin-skinned adult babies start trying to silence everybody who hurts their feelings. During my senior year, I had to sit by and watch as my beloved university bended to the whims of the politically correct. It still pains me to think of all the people who are too afraid to speak their mind out of fear for the easily offended. I’d like to take this moment to extend a giant, virtual middle finger to the social justice warriors of my campus. I’m sure you guys think what you’re doing is right, but you’re violating people’s constitutional rights with your high horse tirade, so you can go fuck yourselves.

At least we’re starting to see some small beacons of light in the midst of this shitstorm, like the University of Chicago, who sent a letter to the entire class of 2020, basically stating that they don’t give a shit about your safe spaces, trigger warnings, and easily offended mindsets.

“Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called ‘trigger warnings. We do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual ‘safe spaces’ where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own.”

Fuck. Yes.

“Fostering the free exchange of ideas reinforces a related University priority—building a campus that welcomes people of all backgrounds. Diversity of opinion and background is a fundamental strength of our community. The members of our community must have the freedom to explore a wide range of ideas.”

This is what I’m talking about. I love this no-nonsense attitude, and frank explanation of why freedom of speech is not scary, but typical of every free-thinking adult.

Here’s the full letter. TRIGGER WARNING: This shit is bonerific.

Is it too late for me to enroll?
