When Did It Become Cool To Be Lazy?

Lazy

I don’t eat sugar. Go ahead. Roll your eyes. I don’t eat sugar because I don’t like the way it makes me feel, I get a headache and feel sluggish for the rest of the day. My favorite food in the world is spinach. I’m the worst right? Because on top of all of that I work out too. But here’s the thing, I don’t post gym or progress selfies to Instagram. I don’t log my workout on Facebook. And I certainly do not look like anything like a fitness model.

I eat burgers and mac and cheese more than I should and I drink enough to have an extra meal’s worth of calories on a daily basis. I don’t give up fun or happiness to be sculpted like a Greek Goddess, I don’t have an eating disorder and I don’t take sketchy pills to “help.” In fact, I just try to stay healthy. I know what needs to be done to be happy with my weight and how my body looks. And in turn I feel happier.

So when I respectfully decline a round of frozen margaritas because I feel stressed, and running, not drinking, helps with that, I don’t get why I get so much flack. “You’re already skinny,” my friends will roll their eyes. When it’s not about that. It’s about feeling healthy. It’s about feeling accomplished at the end of the day. Because trust me, I love day drinking as much as the next slightly alcoholic girl living in my house, but some days, it’s not beneficial to me.

I’m not sure when it became trendy to be lazy. When sedimentary Sundays became weeks for the weak, but it needs to stop. When did it suddenly become cool to hate the outdoors? Yes, I joke about being a land whale and being a couch potato, but it should end at joking. We all have those days, but it shouldn’t be relatable to your entire life. If you hate hiking then go for a bike ride or play volleyball. The TV or computer will be there when you get there, but the sun won’t.

Binge watch Netflix, but also go for a hike. Eat whatever the fuck you want because good tasting food makes you happy, but also make yourself happy with endorphins. And for the love of God, stop saying how much you “don’t do” sweat or dirt. Because I guarantee it becomes a lot more desirable when it’s no longer available when you’re working a 9 to 5.

I don’t want to be preachy. Some people just naturally like to stay in more than others, but stop making it a trend. Do it for your mental health. Do it for your physical health. Or do it for the ‘gram. Either way, get outside and exercise.
