Facebook Is Getting Even Creepier, Now Lets You Know When Your Friends Are Near You

There must be some serious stalkers in Facebook’s development department. Soon, Facebook will introduce a new feature called Nearby Friends, which is just as creepy as it sounds. It seems America is getting closer to creating the Marauder’s Map of my dreams.

According to Facebook, Nearby Friends will help you discover which of your friends are close to you. No longer will you have to wait for a late night text before casually running into your not-boyfriend. Now, you can spontaneously appear at his bar of choice whenever it’s convenient for you, as long as you’ve both turned on the feature–or as long as you turned it on while he was sleeping. Then, you’ll know where your “nearby (not-boy)friend” is at all times.

Once you turn it on, you can choose to share a precise location with friends. They’ll see exactly where you are on a map, which is perfect if you’re too blackout to drop a pin. You’ll then receive notifications when your Facebook friends are nearby. Let’s be honest, half of those people are frenemies, and there’s a large contingent you went to high school with and hope never to see again. I don’t even want to see most of my Facebook friends’ status updates, let alone know their exact GPS coordinates at all times.

While Nearby Friends would be helpful for the girls on “Pretty Little Liars,” it borders stalker status for the rest of us. It’s basically Foursquare, only people will use it–as sorority girl stalkers, this will save time on checking every social media platform available in an attempt to discover someone’s location. Thanks to Facebook, we’ll be like Harry Potter when it comes to tracking people down, minus the invisibility cloak.
