IU Cheer and GPhiB

Nothing is harder than losing someone who was too young to go, but the students and faculty at Indiana University unfortunately suffered the loss of cheerleader and IU sister of Gamma Phi Beta Hannah Wilson.

From The Indy Star:

Wilson was found dead Friday night in Brown County. Indiana State Police have arrested Daniel E. Messel, 49, of Bloomington, on a preliminary charge of murder.

Wilson, a 22-year-old senior from Fishers, was killed by blunt-force trauma to the head, Brown County coroner Earl Piper said Saturday.

Piper said there were some scrapes and bruises on Wilson’s body. There was no weapon left at the scene, the coroner said.

Over 1,500 people joined in two vigils for Wilson. Members of the Panhellenic council joined the sisters of Gamma Phi Beta Alumni Hall on the Bloomington campus to share memories of the fallen sister. After a Panhellenic official offered words of condolences, the Greek community released green and purple balloons in honor of Wilson from the deck of the solarium to honor her memory.

In a second vigil, several hundred students joined Wilson’s teammates at the Indiana Elite Cheer Center cheerleading gym in Noblesville. Again, they released 400 balloons with words of memorial for Wilson.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Hannah Wilson and her friends and family.
