11 Things College Girls Need To Stop Feeling Guilty About

The world is a judgmental place. It’s full of people who want to tell you how to live your life and what’s considered appropriate or not appropriate. I’m here to tell you that unless you are putting yourself or someone else in harm’s way, keep doing you, boo. I’m tired of people telling me what to do and what not to do. Although I’m not completely independent and still rely on my parents’ wallets, I have a general idea on how to get around. Because of this, we should no longer have to feel guilty about doing any of these things:

1. Not Cleaning Your Room
If you’re anything like I am, you’re busy. Unless you are tripping over your clothes and there are bugs and mold in your room, just let it be. But do yourself a favor and make a path out of whatever is on your floor so you can at least get to your bed to crash at the end of the day.

2. Being Drunk In Public
You’re in college. It happens. Sometimes more than once a week, but we’ll get to that later. Just don’t get arrested–it’s not worth the story.

3. Not Adding Someone On Facebook
There are people you see around campus or people who are in our group projects with you and you know they’re weird. However, that doesn’t mean you have to add them because you feel bad for them. Some of us are too philanthropic and try to care for the less fortunate, but not everyone needs to be added (or befriended in general). You may get yourself into more trouble in the end even if you do seem like a bitch for not adding or befriending those people.

4. Calling In Sick At Work
Okay, so you had too much the night before and you’re a little hungover. By calling in sick, you’re doing yourself and your place of work a favor. You have time to get better and your boss won’t have what seems like an incompetent worker. It’s better to call in sick than to get fired for doing a bad job.

5. Skipping Out On Girls’ Nights
Either you want to be alone or you had a long week. Either way, you don’t want to ruin the party for everyone else. Take a nice bubble bath and read some Cosmo or TSM. Go to the next one if you feel like it, or go out to lunch with your friends instead if the night scene isn’t your style.

6. Drinking On Most Weeknights
Life is hard and unpredictable. That’s why we have booze. Sip those suckers down while you can, because later in life, you’ll be married and have kids and you won’t be able to drink as often or as much anymore.

7. Being Single
Who run the world? Girls. Being single means you get to have more girls’ nights, do what you want when you want, and not feel guilty for doing any of it. And don’t worry–Prince Charming will come along someday. You’re beautiful, strong, smart, and philanthropic. He will find you.

8. Singing In A Really Lousy Voice
This goes for both singing at sorority events or just singing in the car. If they didn’t want you to sing in the first place, then they shouldn’t have told everyone to join in on singing or shouldn’t have played the song in the first place.

9. Eating Nutella Out Of The Jar
Not only does eating it out of the jar cut down on calories because you’re not putting it on bread, but it also makes you feel happier. That shit is good, and we all know it. If someone gives you crap for it, just offer some to him or her. If that person still doesn’t shut up, I would reconsider your friendship.

10. Not Dressing Up For Class
This includes not wearing makeup, doing your hair, or getting dressed in normal clothes besides Norts and a T-shirt. Guys don’t care what they look like. They don’t get dressed up, so why should we? Keep getting dressed up for going out. For class, forget it–unless, of course, you’re trying to get with the cute guy who sits next to you.

11. Doing What Makes You Happy
I said this in the beginning and I’ll say it again. It’s your life–nobody else is living it but you. Do what makes you happy, because life is too short.
