Tragedy struck the University of Georgia community last evening when four students, including at least two sorority members, were killed in a two-vehicle crash that left a fifth woman in critical condition and the driver of the other vehicle hospitalized.
According to AJC.com, “Investigators believe the five women were traveling northbound on Ga. 15, toward the UGA campus, when the white Toyota Camry [which was the women’s car] crossed the center line, according to the Georgia State Patrol. A southbound Chevrolet Cobalt struck the side of the Toyota on the two-lane road in Watkinsville shortly before 9 p.m.” There is no word on why the car crossed the center line, but CBS46 reports that “The sheriff tells CBS46 News there were no signs of drugs or alcohol in either vehicle.”
The Georgia State Patrol identified the students on Thursday morning, according to 11alive, stating:
The four female victims in the fatal crash on GA 15, north of Bob Elder Road in Oconee County last night have been identified. They are Kayla Canedo, 19, of Alpharetta; Brittany Feldman, 20, of Alpharetta; Christina Semeria, 19, of Milton; and Halle Scott, 19, of Dunwoody. The driver of the Camry, Agnes Kim, 21, of Snellville, remains hospitalized at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Additionally, the driver of the Cobalt remains hospitalized. It has been confirmed that Canedo and Semeria are members of Alpha Chi Omega, Feldman a member of Pi Beta Phi, and Scott a member of Delta Delta Delta.
Our thoughts are with the women’s families, friends and sisters..
