Sarah Jessica Parker Collaborates With Manolo Blahnik To Create Shoe Line (In Real Life, Not Fake Life)

Yesterday was the fifteenth anniversary of the first day Sex and the City ever aired. As it turns out, we’ll be celebrating not only the program that first made it okay to talk about vibrators over ventis, but a beautiful partnership that was eventually born because of it.

Sarah Jessica Parker has paired with her character’s signature shoe designer, Manolo Blahnik, to create her very own shoeline. Finally. I know she’s technically an actress, not a designer, but tons of celebrities develop their own lines when they weren’t at liberty to do so. Selena Gomez did it, for fuck’s sake, and she built her career without objecting to the weird fashion choices thrust upon her at the Disney Channel. If any undeserving actress is deserving, it’s Sarah Jessica Parker, because Carrie Bradshaw helped to make her a fashion icon.

“Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes, and by default I learned an enormous amount,” she told US Vogue, of her time on Sex and the City. “It’s hard to – no pun intended – walk away from that.”

Her collection, SJP, boasts a broad range of color combinations that you don’t normally see. Parker describes it as “ just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet.” Her line includes both flats and pumps (hovering around the $300 mark), as well as purses (around $700), said to emulate the styles of the ‘70s and ‘80s, “taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag.”

Parker’s line will be exclusively designed in Europe and New York City, because duh. That’s where the highest fashion is, and anyone who says otherwise is from bumfuck, USA mistaken. The SJP collection will be available for purchase at Nordstrom early next year, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what the woman who inspires most women, and repulses most men comes up with.
