Woman Knits From Her Vagina

You know, as a single girl, everyone keeps telling me to take up a hobby. Apparently a personal challenge to outdrink yourself each weekend doesn’t count. I’ve been seriously considering pottery, or bowling, or cooking myself meals that don’t involve a microwave, but none of them seemed quite right. I want the perfect hobby. Now, thanks to feminist artist Casey Jenkins, who’s just embarked upon her art exhibit called “Casting Off My Womb,” I think I’ve found my niche. Vaginal knitting. Knitting with your vagina. Putting a spool of yarn up your vagina and knitting with the thread you pull out. It’s perfect, because I love scarves, and because, as I mentioned, I’m single.

From Huffington Post

“I’m spending 28 days knitting from wool that I’ve inserted in my vagina,” the Melbourne-based artist explains in the video above. “Everyday I take a new skein of wool that’s been wound so that it will unravel from the centre and I stick it up inside me… and then I pull out the thread and knit.”

The point of this display is to make people more comfortable with the female form, but 28 days is quite awhile. A full menstrual cycle. Since we’re on the subject of menses, what does Jenkins do when she’s on her period? Well, as it would turn out, wool is an excellently absorbent material (watch out, Tampax!), so our girl just keeps on keeping . The blood stains make the pattern much more unique. It’s not just art, folks. It’s Vogue.
