The Definitive Guide To What Your New Favorite Taylor Swift Song Says About You

If you haven’t already downloaded 1989, memorized every lyric to every song, had a dance party with your best friends, had a dance party by yourself, realized you didn’t get the deluxe version at Target, bought the CD all over again for the bonus tracks, and cried at your desk to every song, we’re probably not going to be friends. After completing all of these tasks, you no doubt have discovered one tune that you keep coming back to, that grabs your heart and soul for some reason you can’t explain. Thankfully, I’m here to help. Here is what the Taylor Swift song you’ve had on repeat for the last 48 hours says about you.

“Welcome To New York”
You live your life on the edge of a new adventure. Whether it’s New York itself, traveling to a new country, or hopping into a car with five of your closest friends to go to the beach at midnight, there’s something about living your life at the spur of the moment that fascinates you. You believe a life half-lived is no life at all, so you spend your life always one drink in, always in the middle of a dance party, and always celebrating.

“Blank Space”
You’re on the verge of something new, and you know it could go one of two ways: into a whirlwind romance or completely down in flames. You don’t do love halfway. You go big or go home, which is the only way to approach love if you want to really find that life of passion. But no matter what happens, you’re willing to give it a shot because the hope of love–true love–is worth it all.

“Style”
You know firsthand the highs and lows of the on-again, off-again love. Even though you know deep down it won’t be the one to last, there’s just something about this guy that keeps you both coming back to each other over and over again. You’ll know it’s wrong in the morning, but right now, in this moment, it feels so right. You’re willing to wake up in the dark for a few moments of feeling like you’re where you belong with someone you belong with, and sometimes, that’s really all you need.

“Out Of The Woods”
You’ve had a great love that was always on unstable ground. If it was anyone else, you would have left, but this was him. He’s the one you would do anything to be with, and you know what it’s like to spend your days hoping and praying that he feels the same way. Whether there was a breach of trust or one of you made a mistake, you’ve wondered, “Are we finally okay now?” If you’ve wondered this, the chances are that you never will be, but you know you’ve tried your hardest to fix what’s been broken for the sake of love, and that will always leave a little scar.

“All You Had To Do Was Stay”
You’ve been where every girl has been but will never admit to it. You’ve been held in the palm of a guy’s hand, begging him to stay, when all he wanted to do was leave. He left, but you’re stronger now because of it. There will probably always be some part of you wishing he would come back, but that part is way smaller than the part that reminds you how he hurt you. This guy will be back–they always come back–but this time, you’ll be stronger and smarter and he’ll be the one left in the dust.

“Shake It Off”
You are your own person, and you are not ashamed. You embrace your quirks, your oddities, and the things that make you unique, and everyone else can suck it. If you go through life worried about what everyone else thinks, you’ll never live up to your full potential or have your own life to lead, so you shake off the haters to a dance party of your own groove and live your own awesome life. You rock.

“I Wish You Would”
There’s always one guy you regret ending things with, and you can’t get him off your mind. You always think, “What if I had done things just a little bit differently?” You may have loved him but never told him. You may have dumped him over something you never fully communicated about. Every now and then, the memories start pouring back in, and you’ll always wonder about the “what if.” The good news is that since this guy is the one who got away, you’ll only be able to look back on him fondly in the years to come when you’ve moved on and become happy with someone who doesn’t always make you wonder what’s going on in your relationship.

“Bad Blood”
Somehow, the fire in your relationship turned from something controlled and warm to an unpredictable blaze that could blow up at any moment in time. No matter what was said or done, there are some wounds that are just too deep to heal. Even though you had mad, crazy love, there are times when you just have to part to escape the pain. Even though leaving would hurt like hell, staying would hurt even worse.

“Wildest Dreams”
Sometimes when you enter into something, you know this little bit of love will only exist for a night, but that doesn’t mean you have to cry over him every night when you fall asleep. You know upfront that it won’t last, but life is too short to say no to any kind of love. Know that it’s over before it begins, and remember him and that night with a smile for the rest of your life.

“How You Get The Girl”
Sometimes relationships end because he couldn’t come back, swallow his pride, and make it all better. You’d take him back in a heartbeat, but even though you know it’s not going to happen, you have to imagine what it would be like if he did. A girl’s biggest fantasy is a guy on his knee saying I’m sorry, and that’s because it’s so, so rare in this world. But you know that if he does, then you’re one of the lucky ones and he’ll have his girl back once again.

“This Love”
Sometimes love ends for no reason except that it’s not the right time. As they say, if you love someone, let that person go. You heeded that advice even though it probably broke your heart. But just like the tide, he came back to where he belongs, and you know that the pain and separation of losing him the first time prepared you for an amazing, incredible life together that you never could have appreciated without the pain of being apart for a while.

“I Know Places”
Sometimes you get caught up with a guy that you know no one would approve of. Whether he’s a bad guy or he’s someone else’s, bad things would happen if you got caught. Regardless, you can’t stay away. There’s something about loving someone in secret that turns a spark into a flame, and getting caught is a risk you’re willing to take to be with this guy.

“Clean”
Sometimes the best thing to do for love is to let it go. Whatever is happening, it does more harm than good, and it almost feels toxic being around it. For both of your sakes, you have to let it go, because when you do, you’ll finally feel free and alive and clean again. Never forget how you felt when you loved each other, but use that to move forward and find someone who makes you feel that way not just on the good days.

“Wonderland”
You’ve appreciated the excitement of a new love. Sometimes love is so good and so strong because you know it’s only meant to last for a little while, like yours did. Even though he wasn’t the one for you and it wasn’t meant to be, you fell while you could and appreciated that joy, even though it was short-lived.

“You Are In Love”
It’s not the fancy dates or the flowers that make you fall in love. It’s waking up next to the same face every morning and not caring that your hair is a mess. It’s eating the terrible food he makes and laughing about it with him. It’s the little things that add up and sneak into your heart that make you realize you’re in love, and not just the giddy kind of puppy love. It’s real, true love that fills your heart and warms your soul with the contentment of knowing you’ve found your best friend and your lover in the same person.

“New Romantics”
You live the life you want because you know nothing else is worth it. People will hate you and people will hurt you, but spending time with those people will drag you down and leave you in a bored existence. You do you. Live your life in love with yourself, with the guy you want, and with your own choices, because that’s the only way to succeed in this world.
