If Your Graduation Pictures Were Honest

The school year has concluded, and with its closing, we have witnessed yet another round of painfully posed, cheesey graduation photos. I totally understand that graduating is a big deal, and you’re definitely going to want to capture the occasion with some special snaps. But I can’t help but wonder why we tend to depict ourselves in such a dishonest manner. I’m talking about that girl who threw herself headfirst into full-on photoshoot, involving an impressive university landscape and a bottle of champaign. Sure, she tossed on a sundress and dialed down the eyeliner for one day– but where was she the other eight semesters? Why are we so ashamed of all the impressive accomplishments we’ve made, just because they’re a little unconventional and potentially illegal? I, for one, am proud of the fact that I can speak French fluently AND shotgun a beer faster than roughly 85% of the guys I know. I say we ditch the old ways of highlighting only our academic accomplishments, and let our family and friends know what we’ve really been up to the past four years.

If your graduation pictures were honest, they might show you in your natural habitat. For example, passed out in an unfamiliar location:

They could also showcase you failing to properly prioritize your academic responsibilities:

They might show you refusing to say goodbye to your favorite fraternity:

Also, the close runner up:

They could show you trudging home after a night of shameful decisions:

A date with with your one true love, perhaps:

Or wasting your life away, while you still have the time to engage in an unhealthy relationship with your bed:

Why not admit to friends and family that you spent an sizable amount of your college career hunting frat hounds (and their owners):

But at the end of the day, it would be most accurate to depict yourself as simply being “that girl” at the party:

Or just let people know what’s truly important in life:
