There’s an entire day dedicated to it during recruitment. You sometimes spend your weekends getting hours for it. Philanthropy. And although you sometimes dread mandatory events for it, you know deep down, your philanthropy holds a special place in your heart.
The members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. made it crystal clear that philanthropy holds a very special place in their hearts. Last month the sorority donated $250,000 to UNCF during their 2016 Biennial International Convention in Atlanata, Georgia. The convention consisted of over 22,500 members of the sorority. That’s a lot of sisterhood.
The donation presentation was made by AKA’s international president, Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson to UNCF’s president/CEO, Dr. Michael L. Lomax. Lomax said,
This contribution, and all the contributions that have come before from this great sorority –to a total of more than $4 million–represents not only an investment, but an extraordinarily generous investment, in better futures for our students, and through their success, for the college-educated professionals and citizens they will become, for the communities where they will settle and which they will serve, and indeed, for our country and the world we live in. We are beyond grateful to the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha for their continued support of our mission and for Ms. Wilson’s vision to support the historic institutions that helped shape her as a leader.
Four million dollars total? Now that’s a love for your philanthropy. AKA, I’m going to need you to teach a seminar on raising money..
