Once upon a time, I felt sorry for Kylie Jenner. As I flipped through the pages of tabloids, I couldn’t help but pity the youngest member of the Kardashian clan. As the youngest sibling, I know how it feels to be in the shadow of your older sister. In Kylie’s case, this was quite literal, as her sister was a God damn model. But part of this aesthetic was due to her youth; while Khloé and Kim were out getting married, the youngest Jenner was stuck at home wearing her sisters’ old designer clothes. Shame.
Sometime between then and now, Kylie has sneakily grown up, bought her own wardrobe, and transformed into a graceful adult thanks to plastic surgery. While no one can quite recall exactly when Kylie rose to fame, one thing is for sure: her luxury lip kits have certainly helped. And they’ve helped earn her – brace yourself — 18 million in the past year. No, that wasn’t a typo induced by my own tearful self-pity. Kylie has been named one of Forbes’ “30 Under 30” for her wildly successful makeup line.
She also has developed a clothing line with Kendall, which has contributed to those earnings. And let’s not forget those Instagram posts. While there is no concrete evidence that she is profiting from each selfie, I’m convinced that they are somehow being sold on the blackmarket.
Speaking of selfies, there is another competition between the sisters that I am personally more interested in. Kylie currently has about 10 million more followers than Kendall, and is creeping up on Kim’s 89 million. Unfortunately, Kim does take the cake in the financial section, earning approximately 51 million dollars last year. Clearly, Kylie has a little catching up to do in both departments. But with Kim’s recent Instagram hiatus, perhaps she has a head start.
