I hate it when my mom posts terrible pictures of me online. She always waves off my complaints and tries to reassure me with lines like, “Oh honey, you look beautiful!” and “Don’t worry, no one will even see it.” Problem is, I don’t look beautiful and people most definitely will see it, as Mama Jo is far more popular than I am. She gets 70 likes on a picture of her garden and I’m lucky to round up 15 on a selfie, so that’s where I am in life.
I would never go so far as to sue my mom, because I love her and she’s a majestic land mermaid and I’m not worthy of her attention or affection, of which I have both. But I guess things are different in Austria. One 18-year-old is suing her parents for more than 500 pictures that have been posted since 2009. The teen claims she didn’t give her parents permission, and the pictures have made her life miserable.
They knew no shame and no limit – and didn’t care whether it was a picture of me sitting on the toilet or lying naked in my cot – every stage was photographed and then made public. I’m tired of not being taken seriously by my parents.
I guess I’d be pissed if my parents kept sharing intimate childhood moments, but I can’t say that I’d take legal action against them. Lawyer Michael Ramy says his client’s chances of winning are good, despite the fact that her father argues that he has the right to publish the pictures since he was the one who took them. I wonder if he’ll be equally as willing to share some snaps from this lawsuit, which is no doubt jam-packed with lots of family fun.
The case will take place in November, and if the photos are proven to violate the teen’s right to a personal life, her parents may have to pay her compensation as well as legal costs. Best of luck to the family, and I hope to God they don’t forget to document this whole experience..
