Recently, a Starbucks drive-thru in St. Petersburg, Fla., had nearly 400 good samaritans pay for the drink of the next car in line. It apparently started when one friendly lady bought herself a drink and, for reasons unbeknownst to us, randomly opted to also a pay for the drink of the person in the car behind her.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the person behind her felt as if she should return the favor. The chain then started, and the baristas counted that exactly 378 people contributed to the trend before 6 p.m. Then Customer 379 came along, and he decided to take his free drink and drive off like a total selfish dickhead. It was at this time that all the Starbucks employees presumably lost their caffeine boners and continued on with their meaningless, hipster lives.
Some of the customers contributed to the kind gesture out of the goodness of their hearts. Other customers were honest enough to admit that they didn’t want to be the asshole to end it. I almost want to commend Customer 379 for sticking to his guns, but I also hate him for being a total buzzkill. He sounds like the type of guy who spends his time scaring small children and getting into pointless arguments with strangers on the Internet…I wonder if he’s single.
Either way, I wish I had been there to partake in this trend. I would’ve positioned my car behind someone who’s totally loaded (which we all know would be extremely difficult to find in a Starbucks drive-thru) and in front of someone who plans on ordering something simple, like a tall black coffee or just a cake pop. I would also have ordered something really complex and expensive that would ultimately contain more than half of my daily caloric intake.
I’m guessing that once people catch wind of this story, St. Petersburg’s population will undergo an influx of privileged, white women. I’ll see you bitches there.
