If you didn’t get enough of them on their season together, Ben and Lauren will now have their own show on Freeform called Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After. The couple has been said to be the most famous Bachelor couple in the last decade. People could not get enough of buff, bland Ben. It was so clear that Lauren B. would eventually be Lauren Higgins, but they had to go through the motions of the rest of the show to make it fair.
There have been wedding specials for particularly popular couples, but this is the first time that a channel has capitalized on what happens after the show. It’s all so fabricated, it will be interesting to see how the couple actually interacts when they have real life pressures on them. Of course, they’ll love each other when they are on an island or going on the most incredible dates imaginable, but what about when they have to split bills? What about when one of them gets diarrhea? How will they handle reality?
Ben’s season was the 20th season, but the franchise is still holding strong. Along with this spinoff, they have also created The Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad, and Bachelor in Paradise. The prevalence of social media probably has to do with how big The Bachelor has gotten. On Monday nights, it is impossible to scroll through Twitter without having to hack through hundreds of tweets about what is happening on the show. Freeform, which was previously known as ABC Family, has been making a push to create more reality shows, and saw the potential in Ben and Lauren.
It’s hard to say how the series will be, but if there’s one thing that The Bachelor has figured out, it’s that if they film it, we will watch..
