We all know our fall favorite, the PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte for the un-initiated), isn’t exactly good for us. But even if we give up Starbucks for all of the other seasons in an effort to save both our waistlines and our wallets, we enthusiastically indulge in our beloved PSL every fall, because when it comes time that the delicious concoction of spice and (fake) pumpkin, all thoughts of sugar and dollars go right into DGAF territory. We renew our relationship with our beloved barista and figure we’ll deal with the caffeine withdrawals in December.
Maybe it turns out that this year, the PSL may not be so bad…for your body, at least. About this time last year, we learned that there is actually no pumpkin in a PSL. The drink is flavored with caramel color level IV, which has been proven to be quite bad for you in some government funded studies. Well, apparently, Starbucks heard the call of semi-health-minded basic girls everywhere and announced today that they will be using real pumpkin this year in the PSL!
Actually, to be fair, it’s going to be “Pumpkin Spice Flavored Sauce”, which is “sugar, condensed skim milk, pumpkin puree, contains 2% or less of fruit and vegetable juice for color, natural flavors, annatto (color), potassium sorbate (preservative), salt.” But still…pumpkin is a vegetable right? And vegetables are good for you…so obviously, now a PSL is good for you. Problem solved. Drink up, bitches..
