Sometimes, advisors can be a giant pain in the ass. Yes, we know they are there to make sure we don’t completely fuck up, but they also can be a major buzzkill, particularly when it comes to the ever-fun topic of “risk management.” So much so that we sometimes forget that they are actually our brothers and sisters.
But the Beta Theta Pi chapter At Central Michigan University hasn’t forgotten that their chapter advisor, Tylere Presley, is a brother in their bond. And so when Tylere was re-diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma late last year, they wanted to do something to help.
Earlier this week, the chapter hosted a pasta dinner they entitled, “Betas ‘n’ Bowties,” to help fund Tylere’s chemotherapy treatments. While they raised over $1,600 at the event — far more than any other philanthropy event they’ve held — they decided that wasn’t enough. So the chapter has also started a GoFundMe page to raise additional funds.
Tylere is such an important part of the chapter, the brothers knew that had to take part in his treatment.
From CM-Life.com, Beta Theta Pi brother and Rockford junior Mitchell Dickinson:
He’s someone that a lot of our guys in our chapter look up to because when he was in college, he went above and beyond to make every event great and the chapter great. He left a legacy here and built a bridge of it for our younger brothers to go across. Now we have the chance to give back and help him like he has helped us in the past.
As for Tylere, he’s started a YouTube channel for people to be able to follow his journey. It’s funny, passionate, and honest. After watching his current videos I laughed, I cried, and I wanted nothing more than for him to beat this thing.
“There’s situations that happen in life and you look at it like why is this happening to me and I’m upset about this, or you could say this is the situation that has happened to me and here’s how I’m going to embrace the situation and make the best of it,” Presley told UpNorthLive.com. “So, that’s kind of what I want to share through my YouTube channel.”
Don’t worry. When all of his friends started shaving their heads, that’s when I lost it too. Want to know what being in a fraternity looks like? This is it..
