We’ve all been in this situation, right? Girl meets boy, girl falls head over heels for boy, doesn’t want to do anything else but hang out with boy, neglects friends and all other obligations for boy, girl fails a class over it, girl sues boy. It’s like something out of a fairy tale…except for those last two bits.
That’s exactly what happened to 22-year-old Roopam Plawn (I know what I’m naming my first daughter) who is now suing her ex-boyfriend, Jasmeet Ahluwalia, for allegedly causing her to fail a marketing class at Thompson Rivers University. I just found out this is a real college in Kamloops–which I ALSO just found out is the name of an actual city in Canada. You learn something new every day. Anyway, Plawn claims that the “distress” from their breakup is the reason why she failed her class.
According to Plawn, who is studying business administration at Thompson Rivers, the on-again, off-again couple met in September 2013, broke up in early 2014, then got back together again and broke up once more, “for good,” in May.
Plawn, who was a former contestant in the Miss India Canada Pageant which, by the way, is ALSO a real thing in Canada, is seeking damages in the form of $500 for the class and $600 for causing anxiety, depression, and insomnia, which I guess we’ll call “emotional distress.” This is somehow different from the $250 she’s seeking for causing “severe distress,” plus court and lawyers fees. She also wants the $3,500 she she lent her boo while they were together back, plus interest. Obviously.
Maybe she should have spent a little more time hitting the books and a little less time hitting that ass, know what I mean? No shame in ya game, girl, but you gotta study hard if you want a degree from the esteemed Thompson Land o’ Lakes University.
Thompson Rivers University. Sorry.
