Most of us would love to own our own businesses. Not only would being your own boss be amazing, but so would being able to do something you were truly passionate about, in the way you wanted to do it. It’s a big dream, and one that’s a big scary to go after. But there’s one TriSigma sister living the dream, and giving back at the same time.
Zubda Khokhar, a member of Tri Sigma at Gannon University in Erie, PA, has taken her obsession with all things beauty and started her own business, The Surprise Beauty Box. The subscription beauty box that features both high end and indie brands for reasonable prices. When asked why she decided to start her own business, Khokhar said, “I basically wanted to start a way for young women and men to experiment with makeup without having to break the bank!”
Here’s how it works: to get started on the boxes, you will out a survey with your basic info, plus information about your hair and skin type, as well as cosmetic and fragrance preferences. Then you sign up for a subscription, with standard boxes costing $15.00 for month, and a deluxe boxes costing $25.00. Each box will contain items that are hand-picked for you specifically based on your survey responses. Cool, right?
Even if you don’t want to commit to a subscription, you can still shop with The Surprise Beauty Box. Their online site has everything from nail polish removing pads to perfume. And the best part? A percentage of the company’s proceeds goes to Women’s Care Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh, whose mission is to “to advance the safety and wellbeing of victims of intimate partner violence and prevent and respond to intimate partner violence through social change.”
The partnership with WCS was a natural fit for Khokhar, who told us, “I’ve always been a huge advocate for women and helping them succeed so it only seemed fitting to work with the WCS.”
Being a successful businesswoman who gives back to the community? That’s a #TSM..
