Coolest Grandma Ever Competes In Beer Mile, Absolutely Crushes It

I’m not an avid runner. In fact, I think I’m the opposite. I avidly avoid running in any situation I possibly can.

Elvira “Vera” Montes, 81, is a better person than I am and an avid runner. She agreed to participate in the FloTrack Beer Mile World Championships with her daughter and was the oldest person to finish the race. Here’s the kicker: she beat her own daughter’s time.

The beer mile was held in Austin and this was the second time Vera has participated in the race. In twenty minutes and twenty four seconds, Vera ran a mile while chugging four beers. She chugged one beer before the started her mile, and then one after every quarter mile. Vera actually completed the challenge and beat her daughter’s time by more than a minute. Pretty impressive.

Even more impressive is the fact that Vera doesn’t even like beer — she prefers scotch. She told El Paso Times that she would’ve ended with a better time if she had to chug scotch instead of beer.

From El Paso Times:

“I like beer when the weather is real hot and there’s nothing else to drink. I’m really a scotch drinker, Chivas if it’s available. If it was scotch we were drinking instead of beer, I would have run a lot faster.”

This woman is my new hero.
