Does Your State Consume The Most Wine, Beer, Or Liquor?

Well, y’all, it’s official–looks like the party is in New Hampshire this weekend. Of all the 50 grand states, New Hampshire tops the party charts as the largest consumer of alcohol in America, rolling in at an average of–wait for it–40.8 gallons of alcohol. Per person. Per year. Holy shit. I’m here writing for TSM, so it’s pretty safe to assume we can think about this in terms of wine. For 40.8 to be a valid number, every man, woman, and child in New Hampshire would have to drink at least 4 bottles of wine a week. And that’s just on average. Unsurprisingly, Utah is at the bottom of the alcohol consumption list, coming in at only 14 gallons per person per year.

As far as beer drinkers go, North Dakota takes the cake–er, case–with more than a pint consumed per person per day. Meanwhile, D.C. consumes the most wine per capita (presumably due to being the homeland of TSM’s @catie__warren and TFM’s @jqwhiskeyginger). Finally, New Hampshire parties the hardest when it comes to hard liquor. Its residents pound more than a shot a day on average, and Delaware comes in a close second (looking at you, @VeronicaGrandex).
