Are you the kind of girl who freaks out if you send a guy a double-text, thinking that he must now find you annoying and is so totally done with you? Or do you hate getting Tinder message after Tinder message from some guy you don’t even know who wants to “give you the pipe” (even though you know full well you can just unmatch him)?
Try getting 70 messages A DAY from your boo. And calls. Over a 10 month period. Crazy, right?
Well, that’s exactly what a man in France did to his girlfriend. A 33-year-old man from Rhone in the South of France was sent to prison this past Thursday after calling and texting his ex-girlfriend 21,807 times over the course of 10 months. Almost twenty-two FREAKING thousand text messages.
Apparently the guy began to harass his ex-girlfriend, a 32-year-old teacher, after she broke off the relationship in 2011. The man, who has been hospitalized for depression in the past, refused to accept the split. He was apparently demanding some kind of thanks or restitution for doing chores around their apartment.
“At the time, my logic was that as long as she does not return my money, pay me for my work or at least tell me thank you, I would not stop my calls,” he said. “Looking back, it was stupid.”
Not sure why they broke up. He seems like a really cool, helpful, handy, COMPLETELY MENTALLY STABLE guy!
Jeez, really? I clean up my shit all the time, but I don’t text my roommates demanding accolades all day or night.
When she blocked his number, he just called her parents and her workplace instead. He didn’t stop until she finally thanked him for all the work he did around their apartment, in a mediation session organized by lawyers. The man was sentenced to ten months in prison and an almost $13,000 fine. He accepted full responsibility for his harassment and will undergo (hopefully) rigorous psychological treatment. Is lobotomy still a thing? We hope.
