You know how sometimes you’re talking and all of a sudden, you say something that you totally shouldn’t have? As the words leave your mouth, do you immediately regret them and wish more than anything that you could pull them back in? Or how about when someone pisses you off and you react without thinking, making the entire situation worse? Thanks to emotions, alcohol, and a lack of perspective, this has happened to, well, literally all of us. While it’s a horrible feeling, the best thing we can do is learn from it and take note from the greats who have fallen, but gotten back up with grace.
Giuliana Rancic, the host of the television show “Fashion Police,” knows this whole feeling a little too well.
The E! host has received tons of backlash after an off-color comment she made on Monday night’s episode. Now, normally I wouldn’t write about something like this. Considering the fact that I live my life in yoga pants and T-shirts and someone would literally have to pay me to wear heels, “Fashion Police” isn’t really my “thing.” Being a respectful woman, learning from my mistakes, and handling situations with dignity, however, is. Lost? Don’t worry. I’ll catch you up. Below, you’ll see where Giuliana made one of the worst mistakes in her career. Try not to let your jaw drop, as shit hits the fan.
Yeah, WTF? Apparently making a cultural slur and saying that someone’s hair smells like an illegal drunk is offensive. Who knew? The thing is, I honestly don’t think she meant anything bad by it. She was on camera, in the spotlight, making jokes. It’s not exactly an easy feat. But no matter what her intentions were, it just didn’t sound…right. Naturally, the girl they were talking about, Zendaya Coleman, wasn’t too pleased. How did she handle it? By posting angry, pissed off Twitter explosions like our dear Amanda Bynes does? Putting some dogshit on G’s door and lighting it on fire? Maybe a good old-fashioned cat fight?
No. Instead, she spent hours researching, perfecting, and writing a response that she felt confident about:

Kind of hard to argue with that. Talk about grace. Instead of flying off of the handle, she remains calm and speaks from a place of intelligence and reason. So, how oh how does our “Fashion Police” host respond?
Dear @Zendaya, I’m sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!! — Giuliana Rancic (@GiulianaRancic) February 24, 2015
Normally, a haphazard tweet isn’t the way to show a sincere apology. But then Giuliana did something that literally blew people away. This video was uploaded to YouTube a day after her faux pas.
Slow. Clap. And Zendaya’s response?

And that, ladies, is how it’s done. It sucks when you’re in a situation because you said or did the wrong thing, but how do you handle it? By denying it? Lying? Making excuses? Or do you handle it head on with a humble heart, and with your dignity intact? Sure, sometimes it seems like being “the bitch” is the way to go, and yes, we all like to have fun and joke around, but at the end of the day, the best thing in the world you can be is a good person. Don’t go out of your way to hurt others. Go out of your way to make others feel better. Fix the problems that you created, and then face all of your challenges head on. I wasn’t a fan of Giuliana Rancic before any of this happened, but now? Considering the fact that she can be humble, educated, and willing to accept her mistakes and make them right? Let’s just say she has a new follower on Twitter..
The most beautiful people I’ve known are those who have known trials, have known struggles, have known loss, and have found their way out of the depths.
