Having a baby is supposed to be beautiful. You created life in your belly and now you’re bringing it into the world. A tiny human being is coming into existance, all because of you. Having a baby is a miracle. It’s the most important day of your life.
But it’s far from beautiful.
You’ve seen videos, you’ve heard the screams, you’ve seen the look of pain, suffering, agony on the faces of women in labor. It’s not pretty. There’s a lot of sweat and gritted teeth and general discomfort. After all is said and done, the new mother looks like she just ran a marathon.
And then there’s 27-year-old Alaha Majid, a makeup artist and luxury business consultant living in New York. She recently gave birth to a baby girl, Sofia, but she wasn’t going to give birth to her princess looking like a peasant. Alaha put on a full face of makeup in the hospital, because what else are you going to do? Labor can last hours, or even days. Instead of grunting away her contractions, she glammed. She glammed hard.
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A FACE SO FLAWLESS MINUTES AFTER GIVING BIRTH? Not even a single drop of sweat! Alaha was suffering through what some women call the worst pain of their lives, and she still managed to slay that winged liner. Mad props.
What I love the most is tha Alaha didn’t even try and beat around the bush and go for a “natural” look. She went FULL. ON. GLAM. Face beat to the Gods. Contour. Fake lashes. Wing. Matte lip, obviously.
Alaha glammed up in between contractions, as one does. When a really big one hit, her husband stepped in to blend her contour. What a gentleman. She told Buzzfeed that she did her makeup as a way to keep her mind off the contractions.
“I also love to read and during the first few hours that is exactly what I did. However, reading for a few hours started to give me a headache so I figured I’d pull out my makeup bag and get to ‘baking’,” she explained.
As a fellow makeup junkie (I could spot that Morphe 35O palette a mile away), Alaha definitely inspired me to glam the fuck up on the day I have a baby. I mean, you’ll have these pictures for the rest of your life, why not look your best in them?
Oh, and the setting spray she used? Urban Decay All-Nighter. A pre-delivery glam must-have..
