Greeks Of The Week: February 11-17, 2017

Greeks Of The Week: February 11-17, 2017

Being Greek comes with a lot of benefits, but also a lot of flack. There are tons of headlines all over the internet about Greeks partying, getting shut down, and wreaking havoc. But more than that, we’re all out here doing a lot of good. Here are some of the most impressive Greeks in the country this week and their stories.

Gamma Phi Omega at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Gamma Phi Omega

I’m torn on this one: I hate Valentine’s Day but I love puppies. Ultimately, my love of dogs won out, so here we are!

Gamma Phi Omega at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign held a “puppy kissing booth” on February 14th, where a $1 donation got you a kiss and a picture with a pup and $3 let you take one of the cuties on a walk around the campus quad, which was cutely called “seven minutes in heaven.”

The philanthropy benefited the chapter’s Swan scholarship, which is given annually to three Latina students to help them continue in higher education.

I only have one complaint about this adorable event: not nearly enough puppy pics.

I get exhausted when I think about walking around the mall, but the guys from ATO are doing at a hell of a lot more than that, since they are preparing to walk 128.3 to benefit wounded warriors.

More than three dozen of the chapter’s members will be participating in “Walk Hard” from March 3rd to 8th, a walk from their school in Troy, AL to Panama City Beach, FL. The funds that they raise on their trek will benefit Jeep Sullivan’s Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures, which “meets the needs of veterans who have been injured in war and currently suffer from physical and mental ailments,” according to the event’s GoFundMe page.

The help the organization gives to veterans is what motivates the guys on their walk. Philanthropy Chair Ryan Renfrow told AlabamaNews:

To walk for these men and women, these veterans-you know the father that goes overseas and loses his arm, loses his leg-he will never be able to hold his child again-it’s that kind of thing when you’re walking, you know you can take the next step.

Delta Phi Epsilon at Johnson and Wales University

After weeks of posting the manly contestants on their Instagram page, the ladies of Delta Phi Epsilon at Johnson and Wales University crowned their 2017 “Deepher Dude” at their 5th annual event.

The winner, Jason, is a member of Tau Epsilon Phi and is described in his profile as “a sophomore here at JWU, majoring in Baking & Pastry/FSM.” Cute and he can make me a croissant? Sold.

On top of turning the tables and judging the guys for a change, the ladies also did some good, using the event to raise $1600.00 (a new record for the chapter) for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, one of Dphie’s national philanthropies. Nice job, ladies.
