If you didn’t see the recent Jungle Book reboot, you’re missing out. It had amazing graphics, an elephant scene that pushed me to tears for no reason, and of course, Margot Robbie. It was a really good time, and not just because it radiated some serious nostalgia vibes.
Lucky for us, Jon Favreau, the director and co-producer of The Jungle Book, just announced via Instagram his next project: a The Lion King movie reboot.
The Walt Disney Company officially confirmed the new reimagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production, and holy shit, I am excited. Disney is really kicking ass with these live action reboots. Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book were all crazy successful, and I imagine Beauty and the Beast will be bomb because hello, Emma Watson.
Like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King will also have some of the tunes you love most from the movie. How can they not, with such an awesome original sountrack?
The Lion King (1994) is one of the biggest animated films of all time with a lifetime global box office gross of $968.8 million, including $422.8 million domestically. It won Academy Awards for the original song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (Elton John, Tim Rice) and original score (Hans Zimmer), plus two Grammy Awards, with the soundtrack selling over 14 million copies.
Not to push you over the edge or anything, but Disney and Favreau are also developing a sequel to The Jungle Book. No release dates have been released yet, but I’ll be in a state of increasing anxiety until they are. Snaps all around, Disney. .
