Donald Gould, a 51-year-old homeless man living on the streets of Sarasota, recently hit the internet jackpot of generosity after a passerby filmed a quick video of him playing the Styx’s “Come Sail Away” on a street piano. The video became so viral that Gould received a scholarship worth more than $30,000 from Spring Arbor University. Excuse me while I run to the bathroom and attempt to convince my coworkers that I’m allergic to my mascara, and not just a shameful crybaby.
Donald studied music theory at SAU in his younger years, but dropped out when he ran into money troubles. He’s a former Marine, a widower since 1998, and he just happens to play the piano better than Christian Grey and Edward Cullen combined.
This is the kind of feel good shit that makes the world go round. Gould will also receive a Christian life coach to keep him on the right path. Malachi Crane, Vice President for enrollment and marketing at SAU, told USA Today, “Offering him the scholarship was an easy decision. We have seen countless students and lives impacted by the transformational education we provide and know that Donald has a unique gift for music that he can use to change lives.”
Congrats, Gould. Welcome to the good life..
