I’m A Red Carpet Junkie

I'm A Red Carpet Junkie

Awards season is in full swing and you can bet your pretty little selves that I’m loving it. More than the actual award shows though, I love the red carpet extravaganzas that take place before each one. I can’t help myself. Maybe it’s because Giuliana and Ryan make you feel like you’re on the carpet with them. Maybe it’s the dresses that I know I’ll never get to wear but still dream about nightly. Or maybe I’m just that basic that I’ll sit in front of the TV for four hours to listen to gossip and finish off a bottle of wine. The reason doesn’t really matter. What matters is my confession:

I am a red carpet junkie.

There, I said it. Ever since I realized my love for all things glamorous, I’ve been a devout fan of the red carpet. Luckily for me, I’m not alone. My mother loves these circuses just as much as I do. I’ve even seen her on occasion kick my dad out of the room so she could catch every single celebrity walk down that carpet. Clearly I learned from the best. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to have someone with that much power on your side when you’re fighting for the remote.

The biggest part of the night are the outfits. I live to see what everyone is wearing, whether flawless or ridiculous and who better to take you through it all than Giuliana Rancic. The woman knows what’s going on in the fashion world, so naturally I take her word for everything. She’s like the fairy godmother of Hollywood fashion. And then we have Ryan Seacrest. Oh Ryan, is there anything you haven’t hosted? All jokes aside, he knows what he’s doing and I can always count on him to get an interview with that one celeb I’ve been dying to see all night.

The red carpet isn’t just a fashion show, though. It’s a chance to see all of the celebs that have been hiding away for the past eleven months. Some of them are pregnant and rocking the baby bump while others are trying out a new hairdo. Either way, it gives my mom and me something to talk about until the next victim, I mean person, comes along.

Now don’t get me wrong, I like watching the actual award show as well. The opening monologue or music number is always fun to see and I’ll usually keep the TV on if the host is particularly funny. Like this year when Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes. I’ve never seen a man more skilled at offending an entire room full of people like he is. It’s a gift. Or when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the same show the year before. I sat through that entire thing just to see what crazy shit they would come up with next. Just don’t expect me to watch every second of the Country Music Awards.

The GRAMMYs last night were enough to hold me over until the Oscars in a few weeks. People are going to be talking about T-Swift’s outfit for at least two weeks and did you see Selena in that blue dress? Hot damn, girl has a body to die for. Just another reminder that I’ll never fit into something like that.

Whatever I’ll just go console myself with the box of chocolate-covered strawberries that I bought for myself post-Valentine’s day and continue to binge watch Fashion Police.
