Finally! John Stamos is relevant again!
After what seems like a lifetime of starring in sexy greek yogurt ads targeted at stay-at-home moms, John Stamos is coming back to the small screen in a big way. Last night Stamos announced that a Full House spin-off is in the works.
Netflix sealed the deal to a 13 episode order for a new series called Fuller House. It stars some of our favorites from the ’90s original – Candace Cameron-Bure as D.J. Tanner, Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie Tanner and Andrea Barber as Kimmy Gibbler. John Stamos will be a producer as well as an occasional guest star.
But what about Uncle Jesse’s favorite (you know it’s true) niece, Michelle?
There’s a catch. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen haven’t officially signed on as guest stars, which is understandable, seeing as only one of the two can be in the series. It made sense to use twins when they were just babies, considering child labor laws, but now it just makes things more complicated. There might be two Olsen twins but there was only one Michelle. Secretly, I’m hoping for a plot twist where the Tanner’s find out they have a long lost sister so both Olsen twins can come back, but in all honesty that’s probably a long shot. Also, I feel like the Olsen twins are more Skins than Full House these days.
The spin-off is called a spin-off for a reason. In this new series set to debut in 2016, D.J. Tanner is recently widowed with two boys and another one on the way. Once annoying little sister, Stephanie, is an aspiring musician. Stephanie and D.J.’s lifelong best friend (and now single mom to a rebellious teen) Kimmy Gibbler move in with D.J. to help her adjust and raise her children. So, it’s about a widowed parent with (eventually) three children who lives in a house with two other permanent babysitters. Plus an extra teen. Sound familiar?
Ah. Fuller House. I get it.
No word yet on whether Bob Saget, Lori Loughlin, or Dave Coulier will reprise their roles as Danny Tanner, Rebecca Katsopolis, and Joey Gladstone.
